Best poster prize for electrocaloric metrology researcher
Maciej Rokosz, a PhD student at Imperial College London and NPL (UK), has won the best poster award at the 2015 Joint IEEE International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectric (ISAF), International Symposium on Integrated Functionalities (ISIF), and Piezoresponse Force Microscopy Workshop (PFM) (ISAF-ISIF-PFM 2015) in Singapore.
Maciej’s contribution entitled 'Spatial and time-resolved direct measurement of electrocaloric effect using infrared thermal imaging' is based on his work as part of EMRP project NEW09 "Metrology of electrothermal coupling for new functional materials technology'.
The electrocaloric effect is a phenomenon in which a material changes temperature under an applied electric field. The effect can be utilised to develop new, more economical and efficient methods of cooling, for use in the automotive, energy, and medical industries. To support electrocaloric cooling technology, NEW09 brings together Europe’s leading research centres and industry to develop unique capabilities for the traceable and accurate measurements of electrocaloric effect in materials.
