EMPIR project runs successful training and workshop on liquefied natural gas
Training course held alongside the North Sea Flow Measurement conference – Training material available for download
The project
EMPIR project <link research-innovation search-research-projects details>‘Metrological support for LNG and LBG as transport fuel’ (16ENG09, LNG III) is building on the results of two earlier EMRP projects.
The two earlier EMRP projects are:
- <link research-innovation search-research-projects details>‘Metrology for Liquefied Natural Gas’ (ENG03, LNG)
- <link research-innovation search-research-projects details>‘Metrological support for LNG Custody transfer and transport fuel applications’ (ENG60, LNGII)
The workshop and training course
The Metrology for LNG workshop and training course was held in Aberdeen in October 2018, alongside the international North Sea Flow Measurement conference which has been running for over 30 years and is the most important event in the Flow Measurement calendar.
The LNG workshop delivered an update on the EMPIR LNG III project, and included technical presentations covering aspects of LNG metrology. Speakers represented instrument manufacturers, LNG operators, research institutes, academia, and metrology institutes.
The training course, attended by 44 people from across the world, focused on the research activities of the LNG III project, including a general introduction to LNG metrology, reducing the uncertainty in LNG dynamic flow measurements and development of sensors for LNG density, methane and methane slip.
Current and newly developed techniques were discussed, for flow, composition, thermodynamic properties, including the determination of the methane number and metrological infrastructure. The techniques are developed by universities, research instututes, metrological institutes, and instrument manufacturers.
The presentations and training material are available from the project website.
This EMPIR project is co-funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the EMPIR Participating States.
