EMPIR project publishes practical molecular radiotherapy guidance

Research will assist clinicians to improve patient outcomes

EMPIR project ‘<link research-innovation search-research-projects details>Metrology for clinical implementation of dosimetry in molecular radiotherapy’ (15HLT06 MRTDosimetry) is developing a robust measurement protocol, providing standardised methods to support nuclear medicine clinics in setting up and validating dosimetry for individual treatment planning, thereby improving cancer patient outcomes.

A recent paper describing work within the project has been published as an European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) guideline entitled Practical guidance on uncertainty analysis for molecular radiotherapy absorbed dose calculations.

The EANM is a professional non-profit medical association that facilitates communication worldwide among individuals pursuing clinical and research excellence in nuclear medicine.

This guidance document is intended to assist practitioners in providing appropriate nuclear medicine care for patients.

This is a highly anticipated publication within the MRT dosimetry community and it is likely that this will now become a highly cited paper.

Andrew Robinson, Project Coordinator said “This paper proposes the first framework for modelling the uncertainty in the measurement processes which are involved in internal absorbed dose calculations. The combination of metrology with clinical science provides a foundation for this work which will lead to future improved treatment regimens.”

This EMPIR project is co-funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the EMPIR Participating States.

This EMRP joint research project is part of EURAMET’s European Metrology Research Programme. The EMRP is jointly funded by the EMRP participating countries within EURAMET and the European Union.
