2017 STAIR EMPIR workshop - From metrology research to standardisation

EURAMET and CEN-CENELEC will hold a joint workshop on 10 October 2017 in Brussels, Belgium on 'From metrology research to standardisation'.

EURAMET's European Metrology Programme for Research and Innovation (EMPIR), supports a call for normative research projects. The aim of these projects is to address the needs of standardisation groups for traceable measurements to support standardisation work or to develop new standardisation documents. Other calls in EMPIR, in themes such as Industry, Health, Energy and Environment also support projects that often intend to disseminate or exploit the research outcomes through standardisation.

The industry and standardisation communities may be unaware about the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of European metrology institutes. On the other hand, the EURAMET research community may not be aware of all the needs of standardisation groups and the various options to collaborate with standardisation.

The aim of the workshop is to foster collaboration and exchange information between the standardisation and metrology communities; offering a great opportunity for both to discuss, initiate further collaboration and identify common areas of interest .

The workshop provides information about EMPIR and CEN-CENELEC's policy on participation in EU research projects. Examples of successful joint research projects will be presented to illustrate how the projects are organised and conducted. In the afternoon, standardisation representatives and metrologists will have the opportunity to discuss potential research topics for the 2018 EMPIR calls in different technical areas in break-out sessions.
