Innovative instrument developed for electrical networks

The PXIe-5164 oscilloscope giving unprecedented 14-bit resolution, 400 MHz of bandwidth, and the signal flexibility to measure up to 250 V inputs while offering a user-programmable, Kintex-7 Xilinx FPGA

EMPIR project qualifies new transient recorder for the electrical power industry

Gas insulation systems (GIS) are used to protect electrical equipment against potentially hazardous over-voltages, whether caused by the network or lightning, occurring on high voltage electrical networks. Sudden changes in the electrical network structure give rise to very fast transient over-voltages (VFTO). EMPIR project Techniques for ultra-high voltage and very fast transients (15NRM02 UHV) will provide innovative and traceable calibration methods for fast transient sensors to measure VFTO.

Instrument manufacturer National Instruments, in collaboration with project partner RISE, has developed a new transient recorder. This has been qualified within the project and is now available as a new advanced instrument on the market, thereby providing manufacturers of GIS with the tools required to meet their needs. The performance of the transient recorder will be presented at a conference in 2018.
