Kick-off meeting for the EMN Traceability in Laboratory Medicine

Join the kick-off meeting for the European Metrology Network (EMN) Traceability in Laboratory Medicine, a three-day event from Thursday, 20 June to Friday, 21 June at PTB in Braunschweig, Germany.

The EMN on Traceability in Laboratory Medicine (TraceLabMed) has been established to build a coordinated metrology-based infrastructure in the field of in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) in laboratory testing. An estimated 70% of medical decisions depend on in vitro diagnostics, placing it at the heart of modern healthcare. Improved metrological traceability of IVDs enhances the validity of diagnosis, supports further treatment, and lowers financial burdens by avoiding nonessential testing. Traceability is also an important aspect for regulatory schemes: IVD manu-facturers need to comply with legal requirements for traceability to gain and maintain market access.

The kick-off meeting will include presentations introducing the network and the EMN’s initial activities, talks by potential JNP collaborators and EMN stakeholders, and discussion round-tables.

In addition to EMN members, representatives of the following organisations will join the event and add to the discussions:

  • International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, IFCC
  • Joint Committee for Traceability in Laboratory Medicine, JCTLM
  • Bureau International des Poids et Mesures, BIPM
  • Reference Institute for Bioanalytics, RfB
  • German Diagnostics Industry Association, VDGH

Further stakeholders and anyone actively involved in the field of laboratory medicine are very welcome and invited to join. The event will provide an opportunity to contribute ideas and shape the future of a metrology-based quality infrastructure network.

The meeting will be held at the conference centre of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig, Germany.
