Environmental research disseminated at geoscience conference

EMRP project partners organised a session at the European Geosciences Union (EGU) to disseminate project outputs to the wider user community

Recognising the hazards posed by pollution, the EU has developed an extensive body of legislation which establishes health-based standards and objectives for pollutants in the atmosphere.

Key to the successful implementation of these policies is the measurement infrastructure that enables environmental data to be robust and consistent. EMRP projects Metrology for high-impact greenhouse gases (ENV52 HIGHGAS), Metrology for ammonia in ambient air (ENV55 MetNH3) and Metrology for VOC indicators in air pollution and climate change (ENV56 KEY-VOCs) have improved this measurement infrastructure.

15 000 scientists from 107 countries, attended the European Geosciences Union (EGU) conference in Vienna, Austria which covered topics on the full spectrum of the geosciences and the space and planetary sciences.

A session, within the Atmospheric Sciences Division, entitled 'Climate and atmospherically important trace gases: metrology, quality control and measurement comparability' was organised by partners from the HIGHGAS project (NPL, METAS and EMPA) and chaired by Dave Worton of NPL.

The session was highly successful, with 25 oral and poster presentations and more than 60 attendees. It provided an excellent forum to disseminate project outputs to the wider user community.
