Launch meeting of the Climate and Earth Observation European Metrology Network

20 – 21 June 2019, National Physical Laboratory, UK

The European Metrology Network (EMN) for Climate and Ocean Observation will officially launch at a 2-day event starting on Thursday, 20 June at NPL in the UK.

This Network will support the integration of measurement science with climate and ocean observation research in three environmental themes: atmosphere, ocean, and land, and for in situ observations and remote sensing methods.

It aims to engage with stakeholders and stakeholder organisations, such as the European Union’s Copernicus Environmental Information Services and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) to maximise the impact of metrology R&D activities. It will bring together the metrology community in Europe in response to stakeholder engagement to create and disseminate knowledge, gaining and build coordinated infrastructure. Once up and running, the EMN will establish a collaborative network of climate and ocean observing metrology expertise, encompassing all technical domains, as a single focal point.

The opening meeting, aimed at future EMN members and partner institutions will include discussions on the EMN’s scope and activities, a networking lunch and interactive workshops to understand more about stakeholder needs and to set an initial strategic research agenda.

The associated Joint Network Project 18NET04 will have its kick-off meeting immediately before the EMN launch, on the morning of the 20 June. This is a closed meeting, for members of the Joint Network Project only.

Who should attend

Attend this launch meeting, which starts at lunchtime, if you are actively involved in the field of climate, ocean and earth observation.

Attend the Joint Network Project kick-off meeting on the morning of Thursday, 20 June if you are a member of the project consortium.
