Wednesday, 10 November 2021; 10:00 - 15:30 CET
Joint event of EMN TraceLabMed & TC-MC on (bio)chemistry related health topics
The registration is closed.
Registration closes on 8 November 2021. Participation is free of charge.
The meeting will be held online using MS Teams. The link for the workshop will be sent to your registered email a few days prior to the event.
Medical decisions indeed depend on accurate, informative, comparable, and timely measurement results. Obtaining comparable results across varying diagnostic tests and locations is only possible through establishment of a common measurement base. As a result, global metrology institutions focus on improving this very aspect of measurement comparability by developing new and innovative reference materials and reference measurement procedures for the medical field. By establishing comparability, metrology supports legal requirements as defined in the regulation on in vitro diagnostic medical devices EU 2017/746 (IVDR) and it can also help to translate emerging techniques into clinical and/or commercial use. Covering the broad range of diagnostic tests, therapeutics and novel techniques (e.g. metabonomics) requires joint work between stakeholders and the measurement science community.
The workshop is thus focussed on (bio)chemical measurement challenges related to diagnostic measurements, therapeutics, and emerging techniques:
- What are the needs for new reference measurement procedures and reference materials?
- Which services and studies (e.g. on commutability) are needed to meet legal and other requirements?
- How can metrology help to translate emerging techniques into clinical and/or commercial use?
In the first part of the workshop, stakeholders will present their work with a view to related measurement challenges. In the second part, metrology institutes will present their ideas and potential contributions. Pandemics and SARS-CoV-2 are the topic of a separate workshop.
Please have a look at the agenda for the detailed programme >>
Who should attend?
The workshop is intended for
- anyone involved in the use, development, external quality assessment, or regulation of in vitro diagnostic medical devices
- IVD manufacturers, academia and public research organisations developing future medical diagnostic applications
- clinical societies and physicians who identified a need for improved comparability of medical tests, or the need for the translation of novel techniques into clinical use
The workshop will provide you with an opportunity to share your vision and your experience to shape the future of a metrology-based quality infrastructure network and to join and/or form research consortia for the Health Call 2022. You will meet well renowned keynote speakers and metrology experts from Europe.
EURAMET will issue a call on ‘Metrology for Health’ at the beginning of 2022 within the proposed European Partnership on Metrology. In preparation for the call, EURAMET’s European Metrology Network on Traceability in Laboratory Medicine (EMN TraceLabMed) and the Technical Committee for Metrology in Chemistry (TC-MC) are organising a workshop. This aims to bring together stakeholders around laboratory medicine, including international experts in academia, industry, medicine, and the measurement community.
The scope of the Partnership’s Health Call is aligned with Horizon Europe aiming at improving and protecting health by generating knowledge and developing innovative solutions to prevent, diagnose and monitor diseases.
Based on the discussions and ideas, stakeholders and metrology institutes may prepare Potential Research Topics at stage 1 and may form research consortia for stage 2 of the Health Call 2022 to contribute to pandemic preparedness and to unlock the potential of faster innovation.
