Metrology for Energy Gases – Strengthening Europe’s Competitiveness
Welcome to the newsletter of the European Metrology Network for Energy Gases (EMN Energy Gases), the central contact point for measurement capabilities supporting renewable and low-carbon gaseous fuels.
This issue reports on the launch of the network’s first online training series, highlights the successful completion of the MetHyTrucks joint research project, and spotlights the CryoMet project. The newsletter also continues introducing EMN member organisations – this time FORCE Technology – and promotes upcoming events. Enjoy reading! Setting new standards: EMN Energy Gases launches first online training series
In February, the EMN for Energy Gases held its first online training – drawing around 100 participants from metrology institutes, industry, academia, and regulatory bodies worldwide. Covering EU policy, international standardisation, and gas safety, the event was a resounding success. The next training will be a deep dive on metrological solutions for measuring new, more sustainable, energy gases.

Closing the gap: MetHyTrucks successfully completed
After years of dedicated research, MetHyTrucks – a project within the European Partnership on Metrology – concluded in May 2026. The project closed a critical gap: while sampling systems for light-duty hydrogen vehicles already existed, heavy-duty applications lacked validated solutions. MetHyTrucks delivered exactly that, handing results to standardisation bodies.

CryoMet: Reliable liquefied energy gases measurement
As fossil LNG gives way to liquefied biomethane and hydrogen, accurate measurement becomes critical. CryoMet – a project within the European Partnership on Metrology – has completed an extensive calibration campaign covering flow meters, thermometers, and compositional measurement systems for liquefied gases, with results set to be made publicly available across the supply chain. Energy Gases Member Spotlight: FORCE Technology
Since its foundation, FORCE Technology has helped companies navigate major technological shifts. Its activities include the provision of specialist expertise in metrology, with particular strengths in gas flow measurement, and it has been a member of the EMN since the launch of the network.
