Among the featured achievements, the MetroHyVe 2 project presented its successfully validated hydrogen sampling manifold for Hydrogen Refuelling Stations, a significant milestone towards reliable and traceable hydrogen quality measurements. This development strengthens confidence in the emerging hydrogen economy and supports the deployment of hydrogen infrastructure throughout Europe.”

Looking Back: EMPIR Closing Event in Brussels

On 7 May, Europe’s metrology community and stakeholders gathered in Brussels to mark the end of EMPIR – the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research. The EMN for Energy Gases was present, showcasing its project portfolio. Part of the exhibition was the EMPIR project MetroHyVe 2 and its hydrogen sampling manifold for refuelling stations, which is now successfully validated and ready to support Europe’s hydrogen rollout.

Stakeholder Focus: Shaping the Future with MARCOGAZ

Founded in 1968, MARCOGAZ is the European Technical Association for the Gas Industry, representing national associations and companies across the midstream and downstream gas value chain. Through its technical groups, it shapes best practices, standards, and regulatory frameworks – and collaborates closely with the EMN on hydrogen metrology.

Instituto Português da Qualidade – IPQ (Portugal)

IPQ is Portugal’s National Metrology Institute and an active member of the EMN for Energy Gases. With sound expertise in reference gas mixtures and primary standards, IPQ is contributing to key projects on hydrogen, ammonia, CCUS, and methane emissions – helping to build the metrological backbone for Europe’s energy transition.

MetNH3Energy: Supporting the Use of Ammonia in Emerging Applications 

Ammonia is emerging as a key enabler for the global hydrogen economy, offering an efficient means of transporting hydrogen over long distances. The Metrology Partnership project Metrology to support ammonia use in emerging applications (24GRD01, MetNH3Energy) is building the metrological infrastructure needed to support the safe and reliable deployment of ammonia as an energy carrier. Knowledge Hub: Research Insights and Publications

Energy Gases-related joint research projects within the European Partnerships on Metrology are producing peer-reviewed articles, contribute to scientific knowledge and support the transition to a sustainable energy system. These publications are collected on the EMN for Energy Gases website, presenting key research, reports, and insights on renewable and low-carbon gases. They cover topics such as hydrogen, biomethane, technology development, and policy, helping stakeholders understand the role of energy gases in the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
