Reference system for DC power quality and energy meters

LVDC grids experience a number of disturbances to the power quality such as current and voltage ripple, inrush currents, voltage fluctuations, and short circuit events.

LVDC grids experience a number of disturbances to the power quality such as current and voltage ripple, inrush currents, voltage fluctuations, and short circuit events. These PQ events will need to be measured using calibrated instruments so that their level of occurrence in LVDC grids can be monitored and ultimately regulated. Reference systems are required to calibrate these instruments in laboratories to ensure that they can reliably measure these complex transient phenomena.

DC energy meters for revenue settlement and billing will require calibration and approval of DC meters; this includes immunity of DC meters to DC PQ disturbances. Reference systems are needed so that type approval measurements on DC meters can be carried out by testing laboratories.
