EURAMET implements European Metrology Networks

The vision of EURAMET and its members is to ensure Europe has a world-leading metrology capability, based on high-quality scientific research and an effective and inclusive infrastructure, that meets the rapidly advancing needs of end users.

Establishing collaborative structures which go beyond joint research, the European Metrology Networks (EMNs), will be the next step in realising this aim.

The first six EMNs are currently in the process of signing their Memoranda of Understanding and are getting ready to start their work:

A firm foundation to tackle climate change

Understanding the magnitude, timescale and impact of climate change is one of the most critical issues of our time and requires worldwide collaboration. The EMN for Climate and Earth Observation will support the integration of measurement science with climate and ocean observation research in three environmental themes: atmosphere, ocean, and land and earth. read more >>

For more information visit the EMN website, contact the EMN directly or learn about the kick-off event.

How to prepare our energy gas infrastructure for renewable gases

The EMN for Energy Gases provides measurement science expertise to society and industry to support the implementation of the energy transition to renewable gaseous fuels. By bridging the gap between research and end-user communities and acting as a central nucleus for measurement science activities, the network will facilitate a safe, reliable, and diverse energy network for the future. read more >>

Building up a metrology-based infrastructure for clinical measurands

The EMN for Traceability in Laboratory Medicine is a central point of contact for calibration and reference laboratories and in vitro diagnostics (IVD) manufacturers to support a coherent strategy for a pan-European response to the legal requirements for IVDs. By facilitating collaboration across Europe, the network will help to establish the reliability and consistency of measurement results in laboratory medicine, critical for the health of European citizens. read more >>

When modelling and data analysis becomes part of the measuring

The EMN for Mathematics and Statistics is a central reference point that addresses the need for integration between measurement science and mathematical and statistical methods. By providing a website, guides, recommended software, support and collaboration in scientific projects, and workshop and training materials, the network aims to both grow and support the field of mathematical and statistical applications for measurement science in Europe. read more >>

Metrology makes the second quantum revolution more reliable

The EMN for Quantum Technologies provides active coordination of European measurement science research to maintain competitiveness in the field of quantum technologies.
By promoting and facilitating knowledge sharing, collaboration and the uptake of measurement science in the development of quantum technology, the network will establish globally accepted measurement services for quantum technologies and devices in three areas: quantum clocks and atomic sensors, quantum electronics and quantum photonics. read more >>

For more information visit the EMN website or contact the EMN directly.

No smart grid without metrology support

The EMN for Smart Electricity Grids provides support for standardisation, testing, and the research and development of national smart grid development and implementation strategies. By promoting a reliable and robust measurement infrastructure, the network will help Europe to meet its sustainability and climate change goals, and support the energy systems of the future. read more >>
