About the Role
The Management Support Unit (MSU) is a dynamic team within NPL, administering two large-scale European metrology research programmes on behalf of EURAMET eV, jointly funded by the European Union (Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe) and participating countries. The programmes are expected to run until 2033 and support pan-European collaborative research projects in measurement science. As a Project Officer, you’ll take responsibility for a wide range of programme management duties – dealing with everything effectively and efficiently. From developing calls for funding, through project evaluation and grant negotiation to project monitoring and closure.
Responsibilities and Duties
We are looking for a Project Officer to join our team administering two large-scale European metrology research funding programmes. You will work closely with colleagues and assist the research community supported by the programmes. More specifically, you will be involved in:
- Preparing documents for funding calls
- Preparing proposal evaluation documents
- Organising and facilitating the proposal evaluation process
- Negotiating funding grants
- Monitoring funding projects• Participating in ex-post project audits
- Providing support to the research community bidding for and delivering projects
- Supporting the programme management committee
- Reporting to the European Commission
The role is based at NPL in Teddington, UK, although due to Covid-19 we follow government advice and we currently work largely from home. When prevailing conditions allow, the role will also include travel within Europe.
About the Candidate
With a background in science and/or project management, you’re exceptionally well organised and have great communication skills. We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who are numerate and detail oriented, and who have experience and skill in the application of financial rules and regulations in grant funded projects.
- Proven (research) project management experience.
- Knowledge and experience of managing or commissioning projects under the EU Framework Programmes, Horizon 2020 or similar national schemes.
- An understanding of the grant application process.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
- A degree in science or engineering is desirable but not essential.
Candidate must be willing to travel (once coronavirus restrictions are lifted).
